Basketball is quite a popular team sport in many countries worldwide. Some families with basketball enthusiasts even have their own basketball courts on their backyard, so they can shoot some hoops every now and then with some friends or with little kids.
Professional basketball is made up of two competing teams with five active players each. The goal is to propel a ball through a hoop against many defenders within organized rules and regulations.
Competitive basketball games are done indoors, but there have been variations over time and many are seen doing street basketball especially in inner cities and rural areas.
The fundamentals of basketball include the techniques like shooting, passing, and dribbling. Teams have games designed by their coaches according to their individual and team strengths depending on their opponents. Each team has an offensive and defensive structure to follow in order to outscore the other team.
A typical team consists of the center - the tallest members of the group. These taller guys could also be one of two players assigned to forward positions. The shorter players are usually those who are tasked for ball handling because they have the speed and skills as the guards.
Basketball skills can be improved on especially with constant practice and patient coaching. These athletes may also already have the innate physical features like height and built, as well as the skills like speed and agility in handling the ball.
Professional basketball players practice regularly especially if they have a title to defend or if they are really hungry for recognition for the school, country, or any organization they represent.
